This piece, "WARI," is a three-dimensional work inspired by "bamboo splitting," a basic process in bamboo craftsmanship.Bamboo's unique tenacity makes it seem like it might break but doesn't. Its straightforward nature allows it to split straight along its fibers. The artist focused on the essence of the material contained within and the rationality of the techniques that have been passed down, and wanted to capture that moment in time in a form.By splitting a single stalk of bamboo, taking advantage of its flexibility to curve it, and then reconnecting the separated pieces, he reconstructed it into an object that combines structure and function. The natural texture of the bamboo is retained on the outside, and lacquering the inside gives it a durable, modern finish.By combining traditional methods with a modern perspective, the artist listened closely to the material and carefully brought out new creative possibilities.Through the act of "splitting," the artist has found a form that connects, rather than destroys.
